Router Setup
To complete installation you will need to make a minor change to your router. Some people refer to this as their “WiFi”. You probably haven't done this since you set it up and many (most) people forget how to do this. So let's make sure you can access your router before you start setting up your CSB.
You may already know how to access your router, but in case you don't, the best way to complete this step is to find your original manual and simply follow the steps they provide.
We realize that many of our customers are not comfortable working with routers and changing settings. We're here to help you out. Use this form to send us information about your router and we'll send you back instructions on how to access your router and exactly what setting needs to be changed.
Access Your Router
First, you need the router (gateway or GW) address. This is an IP address that probably looks something like this: 192.168.1.1. The CSB displays this for you. “GW” will always be your router address as explained here. Please write this down if necessary.
Change Your DNS Settings
Important - any time you change settings in your router, write down existing settings before changing it so you can revert back if necessary.
You will need to locate your DNS server settings. DNS stands for Domain Name Service. DNS is like the telephone book for the internet. Your DNS setting will be an IP address ponting to some DNS server out on the internet. The DNS address is usually provided by your ISP.
All routers are different so it is difficult to tell you exactly where your DNS server setting is. In fact, there may be 2 locations.
Preferred Setting
Locate the DHCP settings area in your router configuration. Many better routers allow the DNS to be specified in the DHCP setting area. If yours is one if these, then you will see 2 or more fields for specifying DNS servers. If so, then…
- Set the first DNS server to the IP address displayed on your CSB.
- Set the second DNS server to
1.1.1.1. This is just a backup in case your CSB is unreachable.
If you have any other DNS fields, you can leave them blank.
Click Apply or Save Changes, whichever is applicable.
Alternate Setting
Locate the general DNS settings area in your router configuration. They will probably be located in the main settings area in your router. You will see 2 or more fields for specifying DNS servers.
- Set the first DNS server to the IP address displayed on your CSB.
- Set the second DNS server to
1.1.1.1.
If you have any other DNS fields, you can leave them blank.
You should also check your Wireless or WiFI settings as well, Some routers allow different settings for wireless devices. If your router allows that, change your DNS servers as detailed above.
When you are all done, click Apply or Save Changes and check your settings to make sure they all updated properly.
At this point, your CSB should be handling your DNS requests and already cleaning up your internet. You can log out of your router. You're done with your router setup!

Some all-in-one routers from certain ISPs will not allow you to change your DNS settings. They do that because they want you to use their DNS servers so they can sell information on your browsing habits. Don't worry, we have that situation covered.
